DESCRIPTION:Overview The Wilderness First Responder ( WFA ) is a 16-hour ce
 rtification course that will help you prepare for unexpected medical emerg
 encies in wilderness settings. This fast-paced\, hands-on training is desi
 gned to meet the needs of trip leaders\, camp staff\, outdoor enthusiasts\
 , and individuals working in remote locations. It will introduce you to ca
 ring for people who become ill or injured far from definitive medical care
 . Classroom lectures and demonstrations are combined with realistic scenar
 ios where mock patients will challenge you to integrate your learning. At 
 the end of the course\, you’ll have the knowledge\, skills\, and ability
  to make sound decisions in emergency situations. You will also leave the 
 course with a certification that is valid for  two years  from the date of
  the course. This course is hosted by  OutdoorUW\,  and taught by seasoned
   NOLS  instructors in a two-day format\, from  8:00 AM-5:00 PM . Learning
  takes place both in the classroom and in outdoor settings regardless of w
 eather conditions\, so come prepared for wet\, muddy\, cold\, or hot envir
 onments!&nbsp\; Should I take the WFA or the WFR?  The WFA is a two-day co
 urse that primarily focuses on the basics of how to respond to an emergenc
 y situation in a remote area. This is perfect for people who are on remote
  day hikes or shorter trips with friends. This class focuses on the Patien
 t Assessment System and how to start making decisions on patient care. The
  Wilderness First Responder ( WFR ) is a 10-day long course that is the in
 dustry standard for outdoor professionals at outdoor schools and guide com
 panies Prerequisites You must be 16 years old to attend this course. Locat
 ion Primary classroom instruction will be held at: Mendota Lodge\, Lower L
 evel Memorial Union 800 Langdon St. Madison\, Wi 53706 We are not able to 
 offer housing or camping for this course. There are hotels and hostels ava
 ilable nearby. Food will not be provided\, but there are plenty of options
  available for purchase  in the building  and at nearby locations to Memor
 ial Union. There is a refrigerator and microwave to chill and warm food. Y

DESCRIPTION:Interested in horses or horseback riding but aren't sure where 
 to start? Sign-up for Horsemanship 101! This program is for beginner rider
 s\, or for individuals completely new to the horseworld\, to learn the bas
 ics. Our HRC volunteers\, along with professionals at Koerner Corral\, wil
 l teach you about horse safety\, the equipment we use on our horses (how t
 o put it in\, what it is used for)\, how to lead and groom a horse\, ridin
 g basics- and so much more! Instruction will take place at Koerner\, about
  40 minutes away from campus. Transportation will be provided. Instruction
  will be spread out across 3 Sunday’s in October (October 6th\, 13th\, a
 nd 20th ). We will  begin at 10am\, and finish by 12pm.  It is recommended
  that participants attend all sessions.  The cost of the program is  $70
