  This is a presentation of two long-term archaeology projects in northwest
 ern Ecuador. With the discovery of over 300 archeological sites and excava
 tions at a handful of those sites\, much information has been gathered abo
 ut the indigenous inhabitants in a region of 6\,000 km2. Though sites reac
 h as far back as a preceramic occupation around 7\,000 years ago\, most of
